Ice Hockey Tops

ice hockey tops
What are the differences between Ice Hockey and field hockey, apart from the obvious – ice and ground!!?

Would you say ice hockey is more violent? Or is it poetry in motion?

Which is easier to manoeuvre, the puck or the ball? The highest speed the puck can fly? The ball?

How much gear does an ice hockey player wear?

Which are your favourite ice hockey and field hockey teams.

Who are the top ranked nations for ice hockey and field hockey?
If you have very limited grey matter (that means brain cells!!) pls endeavour NOT to answer this question. I welcome real answers from people who can read and understand the question.

Thank you. Have a nice day. :)

Well, Lynn, as you doubtless know by now, I love ice hockey! As for field hockey… not so much.

Real (ice) hockey is a North American and European game which features speed, skill and physicality whilst skating on an ice surface. Girlie (field) hockey is more commonly seen in Western prep schools and countries like India and Pakistan, who have national teams. It involves some speed and skill but zero physicality. As someone has already suggested, it resembles football (soccer) with sticks more than its distant, cold weather relation.

Ice hockey is very definitely far more violent, as there are boards and glass partitions encircling the skating rink and the players go out of their way to hit (check) the opposition. They also use larger and heavier sticks than the field equivalent and fire frozen rubber pucks at high velocity. Players are often seriously hurt playing real hockey. I’ve no clue as to the injury stats for field hockey but I’ve heard that Buffy recently bruised her pinkie finger whilst Tiffany complained of a hangnail.

Real (ice) hockey is very definitely poetry in motion. It is, in fact, the greatest game on earth! It is fast-paced, intense, hard-hitting and exciting. Wonderful as it is to watch on television, nothing compares to taking in a hockey game in person. Fantastic!

Field hockey is… erm… well, it’s technically in motion, I guess.

As for which is easier to manoeuvre, I would think the ball is easier than the puck. I’ve played street hockey (essentially ice hockey minus the ice; NOT field hockey) many times in my younger life and found I could easily control the ball on my stick. A puck, meanwhile, has a tendency to skip and bounce over stick blades, particularly if the ice surface isn’t of the best quality (aka too choppy).

Real hockey players can fire the puck in excess of 100 mph. I believe another answerer has already quoted the maximum velocity of girlie, er, field hockey balls. And while said answerer may have worn special equipment for his field hockey experiences, the world version as seen at the Olympics involves minimal equipment (no helmets, gloves or padding beyond that of your average soccer player). Real (ice) hockey requires quite a lot of equipment and padding, beginning with skates, knee and shin pads, thigh pads, athletic supporters, abdominal padding, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, helmets (often with visors or full cage masks) — and goaltenders wear even more protection — as well as their unique uniforms, which are awesome!

My favourite hockey team is the Buffalo Sabres! Always has been and always shall be! I’ve loved that team since its inception (they debuted in 1970 when I was a very wee lad) and watched them play in person many times, including when they visited Washington to play the Caps, last March. I have no favourite field hockey team. I mean, honestly…

The top-ranked nations for ice hockey are: Canada (like, they invented the game, eh?), USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, amongst others. The top field hockey nations are: India, Pakistan, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Argentina and Korea (and yes, I had to bloody research this, lol).

Thank you for (finally) asking a hockey question, but could we just stick to REAL hockey next time, please? :)

Seeing the knicks play?

Going to NYC soon, tempted to go and see the knicks play. it will be my first basketball game – im english just goto Soccer here.

Is it worth going — bearing inmind that i am not a fan, just think it would be interesting to see some live sports on my visit.

If not the knicks would the Ice Hockey be better to watch?

Either way i want to go into Madison Square Garden

For Knicks and/or Rangers tickets, buy them as far in advance as you can for the best seats.
Madison Square Garden is an arena with a great history, but the facility is old and feels old com paired to arenas built or refurbished in the last almost 40 years.
The Knicks this year are doing very badly with a record of 18 wins and 25 losses, with 10 wins and 12 losses at the Garden.
